What Happens to Wondering

Take the things off or take them inside
Tell the tale right or let it all ride
On a game you can’t win, you’re playing to lose
Fold up the paper and turn off the news

Your phone it kept ringing, picked up by none
To get back in touch about the game not won
I wondered if that the best way to get back to you
Or fold up those cards I marked, and you never knew

Warm in the nights, so hot in the days
As summer once was, the plans and the ways
Could be done quicker, life was abound
Things you dug up should’ve been left in the ground

The faster I run, the faster it flies
The faster I feel, the salt in my eyes
That can take a lake still, lacking any motion
And become the Dead Sea or Atlantic Ocean

I sit and I think, I stare, and I wonder
Did my mind crack open or was that the thunder
As the rain came down, becoming ever so clear
The thoughts once gone became suddenly near

Would you take it all in with a welcoming arm?
Would you pull out the best, would you sell the farm
Or you think it be different, for you that’s a must
Instead bought the farm, the life it went bust

We all speak quite different, some hold cards to their chest
Some speak so much, just give it a rest
For what you describe, what you explain
Could stop a man cold, even a runaway train

That brings to mind a scene, long walk down the track
Three went out walking, only one came back
I always wondered if they kept walking or stranger
They got lost in the woods and found their last danger

Not to be believed not in million years
Closed my eyes tight, my fright and my fears
They go away quickly it seems with one simple act
I made it a bargain, we shook on the pact

To tell you the truth and tell it so plain
Then wash it all down, discard down a drain
I can find the stuff later; I can dig up the past
And live it again, I can have it done fast

You will look you and look harder, and trying you gathered
All that was broke, and all things that I scattered
Hard to imagine, harder to try, but I know
That season has come, and it’s starting to snow
