What you’ll find when you look at things not all there
Come back to you again, a glance to a stare
For if not for a movement in back of the mind
What was soon missed, left for others to find

The pond lays in silence and decides to go nowhere
The creek rolls and turns, an ocean wouldn’t compare
To a hundred or more for it makes not a current
But tell that to each one, figured you wouldn’t

The soft face of a girl and singing a rhyme
Now or then it matters, not the place nor the time
Don’t forget her light steps and towards you she came
But the path goes both ways, will you take all blame?

Hand in hand and step for step, the two make their way
Looking around they see the path, their feet made of clay
Despite rough bramble and steep being the slope
They tried to come back, so weak was the rope

If you listen with purpose, a sudden voice can be heard
But was it yours, was it mine, who got the last word?
It’ll keep getting louder but never as clear
As when I caught you alone, caught you right here

You saw a tree standing and one on its side
Fallen times long ago, it’s left with no pride
In its day branches reached down to provide us all shade
Looking back now, standing on it, a thought never made

Tell me now, again you say she never was here?
Never in white, please, to me it’s always been clear
Resting in my hand, a button she lost in the dark of night
With the scent of her skin, control took to flight

Sensing to knowing, not really much of a leap
You sowed not a thing and not a thing you will reap
When hands drop everything, you held so dearly
Now you’re convinced, you can see it so clearly

But it’s that same thought the one that won’t leave
It’s a pattern or a path in and out my steps will weave
No matter where I go, no matter where I’ve been
It’s back to the same place, with a cold howling wind

A distant sight, a slow movement, one that brings fear
The same one when alone you feel someone near
Do you look suddenly with courage and sheer bravery
Don’t do so now for I know that she’s near to me

You see nothing when near to her, but take this all in
She’ll leave you without warning at that point to begin
A returning to a place where a soldier once hid
Shot down by a comrade not meant but he did
A turn for the worse is a turn nonetheless
To stand in the corner and watch her undress
Get back to the blouse, you saw the button drop
The one used to prove that the door she did lock

A second-floor window, a house now in flame
Before a girl sat a in a chair, I’ve forgotten her name
Was the house too much, to remember her rocking
Before the quietness of falling, falling not walking
At this point I wonder; thinking if it was all real She tried to convince me by letting me feel The button that dropped “is like so many I’ve obtained” Your mind too fast, it races like a runaway train I think I see clearly, yes, so clearly it’s become I’ll stand here and fight not away will I run For if the button is not true, really from her Then everything I seen, will soon be a blur
I’ll walk away now, thanks for helping me out
Gathering ideas and thoughts from running about
Don’t worry about me and don’t shed a tear
For I know damn well she again will appear
