A Story of Life (One Man’s Journey)

A captain, our leader, a man, our hope
Set sail at dawn, fine wine he tote
With amusement and confidence he looked straight ahead
Never knowing or caring, the future no dread

A swell a thunder is weathered ‘round here
No storm will sink her, no reason for fear
“Pull the sails tight by day we’ll be gone”
“Let the world behind us sink deep by the dawn”

It must be all right, we’ll listen and learn
No man was cast over from bow to stern
Waiting for orders, eyes set in stone
Not all so sure as trouble had grown
(Even angels had known)

“Cast this over the weight is to great”
“None can be spent, time it is late”
To make it to shore or at least to the bay
Is a dream all had while drifting away

To ones who not dare open their eyes
To lash out with fire the dangerous tides
A deck hand, a cook never so brave
To go asleep tossing in a watery grave

Remember the mission we started off for?
To find all the ones who returned no more
They did something wrong, we’ll stay the course
Return to our wives our children our source

A story is repeated, there is nothing new
A captain, a leader, lost souls of his crew
Never recovered whatever the cost
A sin of omission not found only lost

Make up the ending if different you will
Study the map, the changes will heal
The pain it brought you can never compare
To a night in the deep and sudden despair

A wave it will roll, unnoticed by all
A child will play, a parent will call
The ocean like life, it will toss then turn
Some people sink, while others will learn
