Empty Space

(4-1-18, 2:00-3:05pm)

In the space between here and there is a broken sun
In the darkness you called, thinking I’m the one
Who can turn back time and undo what has been done
But the fool turns up his collar, there is no help, there is none

In the space between here and there gathers the wild seed
Of a plant I planted, lacking brilliance, it’s just a weed
A weed that can’t be pulled, it can’t be killed, I must concede
By the root of all evil grows a field of those who don’t believe

In the space between here and there is a sound that can’t be heard
Stumbling, listening, silence but not a spoken word
There is no voice, there is no whisper, we can’t confer
Drifting and ignoring of a place not meant to be disturbed

In the space between here and there is a sight no man can see
Condemned to death, condemned to drift for all eternity
Time doesn’t matter to the aimless, those just like me
For during that time, we fight the thought, the painful imagery

In the space between here and there is a vague conversation
Over what never happened, shouldn’t happen, condemnation
It takes two to pass words like bombs at night, fights two nation
Only one left to rebuild, one left to waste, gone all expectation

In the space between here and there, sits a half full suitcase
The first part was easy, follow the lines, you can trace
Where things were once here, vibrant, that’s no longer the case
Carried too long what becomes, what’s left, dust covered, and waste

In the space between here and there, stands a quiet fence
Is it to keep in, is it to keep out, who’s intended the suspense
So easy to push down, walk through, my nervous tightly they clench
It became a wall, a battle line, and soldiers I’m sure, dead in the trench

In the space between here and there, emptiness all around
Vanished like a dream, gone like the wind, he simply won’t be found
For some time he’s been gone, up and left, packed in the cold, dark ground
Take his seat, take his chair, I can tell you truthfully, he simply doesn’t care
